During the days leading up to Christmas I started feeling a little spirited. I love Christmas, but I often lack the spirit necessary to decorate and wear a Santa hat in public.
This year I heard of a super cool event called “Zoo Lights” at the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma. It sounded a lot like a family event, which is hard to take advantage of as a single girl. Clearly, I did what any single girl who wants to go to a Christmas light show at the zoo would do. I asked my boss and his family if they were going to go, and if so, could I tag along.
Surprisingly they did not tell me I was a total loser and let me join in on the fun.
There were lights set up for various historical and sight seeing poings for Western Washington like bridges and Mount Rainier. They even had the aquarium open where I got to see bizarre fish and sea life that does not live in Southern California where I grew up. There were various christmas light animals “hidden” along the path and you never knew when a tiger might “pop up” in the trees next to you.
I did not see anyone walking around alone, but there were some couples who were clearly on a romantic date and families with multiple generations in attendance. It was a cool mix of people to see how they all reacted to different displays. The lights will be out until the New Year so I might take some friends that will be visiting after Christmas, but before New Years Eve.
Did you take part in any stereotypical Christmas activities this year? How was it?
