![I did it! Last year I stayed right on track every day. This year, it was a lot harder. Being 8.5-9 months pregnant involved many more distractions for my time than I expected. And the story I wrote wasn’t working about 20,000 words in. There were days where I wrote 117 - 336 words (the average needed is 1,667). On the 16th, I told Joey this just wasn’t my year and I think I’d stop. Without hesitation, he said, “Brittany [last name] is not a quitter.” And he was right. I then listened to a podcast (How to Win NaNo) that asked “Would you rather quit or would you rather lose?” And that was such a good mindset for me. I chose losing and tried to relieve the pressure of being 6,000 words behind and seemingly unable to catch up, with a story that was just-not-working.
So I changed things up in what intended for the characters on 11/01, and kept trudging ahead, forcing myself to write at least 1,000 words a day, even if I was in bed in the dark typing on my iPad. I’m so glad I did.
