How To Make Homemade Vick’s Shower Bars

Guest Post, How-To

For the final two weeks leading up to the bar exam, Where My Soul Belongs will be supported by a team of fabulous bloggers who I graciously call friends of mine. They have come to rescue me from the pit of bar exam torture and take one thing off my plate – writing here. The problem with the bar exam is that it is so awful. I love blogging and I love this blog. Therefore, it is VERY easy for me to hang around here and twitter and chat with all of you guys instead of studying.  This blogging community makes me feel so blessed. They have totally come to my rescue.

Kendra and I officially met at a Washington Bloggers Meetup she hosted. It was so fun! She must have known I just got over a THREE WEEK LONG flu/cold mutant thing when she sent over this post. Ugh. This is perfect. If you’re feeling sick I’m sure these shower bars will help a ton. I can’t wait to try them myself.

Hi, I’m Kendra from Adventures of Brad & Kendra and I’m happy to be here today sharing with you while Brittany studies her heart out. Back in January, I had a nasty cold and was looking for any sort of relief. One of the things that I made were some DIY Vick’s Shower Bars. They are super simple to make, the longest part is waiting for them to dry.

I used roughly 2 cups of baking soda which made 9 disks.  Costco sells 10 pound bags of baking soda which is great for making homemade items like DIY dishwasher detergent and fabric softener.

With the baking soda in a mixing bowl, slowly add water until it becomes a thick paste. I used about 3/4 cup of water.  I also added 30 drops of Eucalyptus oil, 20 drops of Lavender oil and 15 drops of Peppermint oil.

I filled cupcake liners with some of this mixture and then left it overnight to dry out. If you need them sooner, you can also bake them for 5-10 minutes at 350 to pull the water out. To use, simply place on the shower floor and breathe in the steam as the disk evaporates.

I hope all of you stay healthy this year; however, if you do find yourself with a bit of a cold try out these disks to help soothe the symptoms.
