One thing my friends have all heard me say is that I HATE dating. My initial instinct when someone says “dating is fun!” to me, is to tell them how torturous and awful it actually is.
Thus, in order to end my #31Days journey with a bang, only 12 days late, I figured I would look at the bright side of this frustrating topic. All gifs courtesy of the always relevant My Friends Are Married. She gets me.
1) Free food and/or alcohol.
Let’s be real here, sometimes this is the only part of the night that’s actually good.
2) You get to practice your acting skills.
I never knew you could laugh so well at jokes that bad! Good job!
3) If he’s a creative planner, you get to experience new things in your town that you didn’t know existed.
One bonus of the relationship I was in earlier this year was that I was new in town, and he was a great date-planner. I experienced I ton of things I’d never been to before like new-to-me restaurants, professional soccer games, staycations and cruising local parks. If you go out with a guy a couple times, he might prove to have an adverturous spirit! Of course, some adventures are TOO crazy to me.
MEN: PLEASE no outdoor sporting or recreation activities on the first date! Keep it simple, and see #1. There’s a good chance we’re just here for the free food and liking you will be a bonus.
4) You get to wear that dress that’s been in the back of your closet collecting dust.
If you just met this guy then he doesn’t know you wore that dress to a wedding last year. Score!
5) This date might end so poorly your sister asks you if you were on Disaster Date.
It happens to the best of us. One date I went on this year was so absolutely terrible my friends ask me to retell the story over and over. At the time I wanted to cry, until my sister asked if I was on a secret episode of Punk’d or Disaster Date. Now I know that my several hours of torture gave me more than just free food and alcohol, it also gave me a great story.
6) Get this… You might LIKE the guy!
And that’s the best part ever! Plus, you get more than one date, although the food and alcohol comes out to a more even financial share at some point.
Do you get frustrated dating? Let’s think positive together. What’s a pro on your pro and con list of dating?

November 12, 2013 at 5:51 pmI love this. You have made excellent points. I HATE dating. I’m a relationship type girl not a dating girl. I was in a relationship 17-22 & then didn’t go on a single date until I was 24… The second real date I went on turned into another relationship which ended & I’ve only been on 3 more dates since then.

November 12, 2013 at 7:50 pmI think you should share your horrible date story since it’s apparently so funny! :) I didn’t see a link to it, so I’m assuming you haven’t written about it yet. If you have, I’d LOVE to read it! These are some super great reasons to enjoy dating, but I agree.. it’s not all that fun or exciting for the most part… it’s rather painful and difficult lol.
