When Inspiration Strikes

I finished my quiet time this morning feeling completely inspired. After waking up to the second absolutely gorgeous sunrise in a row, God spoke lots of quiet peace into my heart at my kitchen table.

Then I checked Facebook after scrolling through my work email, and saw this gorgeous feature of my friend Erika’s company. You probably know her as Rouge & Whimsy, and I can assure you that she’s just as fabulous in real life as she is on the internet :).

I don’t know if you know this about me, but I have a thing for polka dots. (click the image to go there)

I started sewing* Christmas presents last night. And by “sewing” I mean the first time I tried on Sunday, the thread broke in the machine. I spent like two hours googling what causes that before finally texting my boss’ wife (whose machine I borrowed) and asking. Apparently this is not uncommon. I got home, fixed it, watched a youtube video on how to put the bobbin and thread back in, and sat down. Then I sewed an absolutely hideous/horrendous/awful not-straight line. That’s OK though. I’ll use that seam ripper everyone always raves about and try again.

For now I’m just excited that the vision I had in my head is on track to come true. My thought this year is that I will use some of my birthday money to buy a sewing machine. They have a killer sale on Amazon right now. We will see if I do it, or if the guilt eats at me and I just use that money for bills instead.

Right now I’m going to do my best to channel this inspiration of beauty into legal work. I’m not sure if it’s possible, since legal work rarely involves beauty. But I’m going to try.

Isn’t it really incredible how God works? I woke up with a headache three hours ago, and here I am awe inspired by creation. I guess there’s more beauty in the thankfulness than I ever imagined. Eucharisteo.

  1. It IS pretty incredible how God works, and I love how you’re so inspired these days. I also love that you’re working at making things with your own hands and trying to channel the inspiration of beauty into legal work. While that might be a challenge, I believe you can do it, and I know it’ll be a refreshing breath of fresh air for the people seeing your work output, too. :)

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
