January Progress and February Goals
Yesterday, J took me on a gorgeous getaway yesterday to see the Oregon coast. It was a surprise and all he told me was that I didn’t need hiking or outside clothes, but I did need my laptop and grading papers. The road trip concluded with a “homework” date so he could finish his MBA work and I could finish my last essays of the month. It was PERFECT for this productivity nerd who was also going stir crazy from sitting inside during this gloomy/rainy winter!

So let’s talk about how I did.

January Progress

My lawyering work load spiraled out of control this month. While it wasn’t the busiest I’ve ever been as a lawyer, it was by far the busiest month I’ve had in this job, meaning it was the busiest I’ve been at work for over a year now. I worked almost every day of the week, including holidays that everyone else got to take off. It was exhausting! Not only that, it’s “side hustle” time for the bar exam. I grade bar exam preparation essays and January and June are the busiest seasons for that. When I wasn’t working, I was grading essays. I love being busy, and I got it all done, but it was definitely at the expense of my other goals. (I used to set work-related goals and share them here, but now that I’m in-house the goals aren’t as trackable and would be too much information when people find out I have only 1 client that the goals could relate to.)

Personal:

Read 1 Book and Listen to 1 Audiobook – I made a lot of progress on this goal, but I didn’t finish either book on time. My Audiobook said I still had an hour and 20 minutes left, but apparently that included the endnotes and appendicies. I finished it in 8 minutes on my drive to work this morning! If I had known there were only 8 minutes left, I definitely would have finished it yesterday. I’m almost done with the physical book and hope to have that completed this week!

January’s books were:

I Know How She Does It, by Laura Vanderkam – Physical Book
Out of Order, by former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor – Audio Book

Blogging:

2,500 Instagram Followers – I was so close to this goal. Around January 10th I had actually met it. But after a chunk of Instagram loop followers left, I was back down to 2,100 by the 20th. I finished the month off at a strong 2,299 followers. While I am disappointed that I didn’t make my goal, I am pleased with this number. It is 750 more than I had on January 1 so I will celebrate that progress and refocus myself next month.

Why: I have had a lot of goals in the past about writing x number of posts, or spend x number of minutes writing per day. These are great goals, however I have a ton of content on WMSB and spend very little time promoting it. This means that I write a post and then after a week or so, no one sees it. I’m hoping that by focusing on social media, along side writing (which happens naturally because I love it), I will see greater success in this space.

Done! These are so fun and I hope to do this every month. Are there any specific prizes or gift cards you’d like to win?? Tell me in the comments!

Fitness:

Work Out 3+ Times a Week – This simply did not happen. I was so busy at work that I had to call and cancel my RSVP to several of the nights I had registered for at Barre. My studio was doing a 30 day challenge where you got to give yourself a star after every class. I think this challenge is easier for the yoga students, or students who have a barre + yoga unlimited package, but I still participate even though my body would kill me if I did barre 30 days in a row. I had five barre stars and went for one run this month. So, grand total, I worked out 6 times. That’s only twice a week, not even close to my goal! I am definitely going to try again in February.

This number doesn’t count the nights before bed that I saw these weights and did 20 or so reps of a few different lifts.

Financial:

Don’t Eat Out from January 7-February 7 – J and I are doing this together. I plan to write a whole post about it. The unusual date range is because we came up with the idea after my thorough 2015 “Where my Money Went” analysis. One night we had “nachos” (I don’t care for cheese so mine didn’t have cheese) because I realized he didn’t have any tortillas or taco shells AFTER I had made all of the components of tacos at his house.

February Goals

Personal:

Read 1 Book and Listen to 1 Audiobook – This goal will be present all year long. On the reading list this month:

After You, by JoJo Moyes – Physical Book. I started this when we went to Dallas and have been making myself finish other books first. I LOVED Me Before You so I’m anxious to get to it!
Better than Before, by Gretchen Rubin – Audiobook. I started this one after the conclusion of Out of Order this morning! I’m stoked.

Beth Moore Quiet Time – I’ve been haphazard in my quiet time materials, jumping from study to study, and physical book to YouVersion app, but I’m participating in an in-person Beth Moore bible study that has “homework” every day. I love it! I don’t know why I haven’t been able to focus on the materials during the week, but I need to get back on track!

Blogging:

Participate In One Instagram Giveaway and One Blog Giveaway – I have already registered for a blog group giveaway this month and am still looking for a good instagram giveaway to join.

3,000 Instagram Followers and 2,000 Twitter Followers – My twitter has hovered at 1,500 since I made it private about a year ago. I’ve switched it back to a public account and am remembering how fun twitter is! See you there!

Fitness:

Work Out 3+ Times a Week – After I finish writing this post I’m going to go RSVP for all of my barre classes for the month. I also need to schedule in some runs because it’s almost time to start running some more 5ks!

Financial:

Continue my Debt Snowball – All of the payments are scheduled so this should work out A-OK!

What are your goals for February? How did January go for you? Are you still on track for your resolutions? If not there’s nothing stopping you from figuring it out now!
