A Weekend Re-Cap

Adventures, Diary of a First Time Home Owner

This weekend was really full, which is good for a weekend. But I do wish we had Easter Monday off from work. It’s been a long time (a year??) since I’ve done a weekend recap post and it sounded like a fun idea today since the weekend was so busy! So let’s jump in!

Friday was Gonzaga’s turn to play in March Madness. Talk about a stressful game! We went and watched with the local GU Alumni chapter.

I am still so disappointed about our loss. It’s so hard to watch GU lose!

I woke up on Saturday and determined that today was the day I would mow my lawn! J had to give me a lesson on how to use the lawn mower he gave me when I bought my house. He started a small patch, and then let me try so that he could be sure I understood how it worked.
Mowing the Lawn
It has obviously been too long since the last mow, but the PNW weather had not cooperated on any of the days I could mow so far this year. Even on Saturday morning, the grass was too damp to keep mowing and I had to get ready to go to my caucus anyway.

This was my first caucus and it was so fascinating! I felt very patriotic and it was cool to see my neighborhood come together and discuss our future.

Afterwards, I ran to Target to buy some final Easter supplies and made the mistake of walking through the garden department. I snagged some cute outdoor string lights and battery operated lanterns, ran into a friend and then went to get a gas can and gas for the lawn mower.

Back to it I went. After an hour and countless jams of grass, I took a break for a glass of water and an update picture.
It was nice to be outside, but MAN! Pro-tip: If you’re going to mow your lawn, wear a sports bra. It’s basically a workout and it’s easier to deal with sweaty sports bras than regular ones.

An hour after that, I texted a few friends to see who wanted to come over later and celebrate that I conquered the lawn. It seemed like a great time to open up the fancy bottle of wine that my Mortgage Officer sent me after my house closed.

I let them know to come over about an hour after my text. This lawn mowing business is hard! Then, when I was almost done, I ran out of gas. Ugh! I didn’t know if you had to wait or not to refill it, so I took a mini-break. I went back out, added more gas, and chugging along I went. Did you know that homeowners are responsible for the grass between the street and the sidewalk?? I had no idea!! Luckily, J told me, so I knew in advance that just mowing my lawn wouldn’t be good enough. In the end, though, it was so satisfying to mow the whole thing by myself!
Yard Mow Complete
In the interest of full disclosure: I have taken several doses of ibuprofen since that afternoon. Ouch!

It’s Easter! I’m so excited! The Easter Bunny showed up with candy and gifts for cats and humans alike.

Then, we went to church. The service was AMAZING. Easter is my favorite church holiday. It’s such a special day and I love it because none of the other holidays, including Christmas, would matter if it weren’t for Easter!
After church we met a friend at a Chinese buffet (so good!). We got there early, and J decided it was a good time to give me a lesson in driving a stick shift. Eek!!! I was not very good, but there was minimal improvement so at least I have potential. haha

I took for granted how many hams were still available on Easter Day a couple years ago. Finally, on Easter afternoon, I went to the store to buy a ham. I had to go to two grocery stores, and luckily at the second store they had ONE ham left! It was bigger than I needed but beggars can’t be choosers at that point, right?

I went to J’s house and prepared an Easter feast for us and his brother! I made ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, asparagus, salad, and had some black olives as an appetizer.
Easter Feast
You guys. They were the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever made. So good!

Clearly the only option after all of that amazing food was to read a book and go to bed early. #Thisis30 haha

How was your Easter weekend?? What did you do? What did you eat?

    Hi, Brittany!
It was such fun visiting your blog today and getting peek at your Easter weekend. We dragged a friend to the 12:30 service on Sunday, and I made my magical meatloaf with a salad and some brown wild rice to keep it semi healthy. — I read your about page and discovered that we have a bit in common as I was a single gal for way longer than I expected. Met my husband in my early 40’s (I hope you will not have to wait that long!).
Keep enjoying the journey! God’s got you covered.

Girl! Holy crap at the grass! You did a great job and I am so thankful I have someone to mow my grass at the current time. My yard is huge so I couldn’t even imagine! I know you totally enjoyed that wine, lol!
