You guys might have noticed that I recently updated my social media profile pictures. That’s because my amazing friend Laura officially launched her professional photography business and I was able to get in before she booked up!
I contacted Laura to see if she would be able to shoot some blog head shots. I have been working to beautify this place, and Neely (my blogging fairy Godmother) has been telling me since late 2015 that I needed to get professional photos for WMSB. While I was searching for a photographer, J reminded me that his longtime friend Laura takes amazing photos of her friends and family.
I immediately got online and sent her a message to find out how much, if it was even something she’d be interested in, she would charge to do head shots. It was my lucky day! Laura had just officially launched Moonshine Photography!
I was so nervous about the photoshoot because I had no idea what to wear or how to pose. When I was a kid we had the typical glamour shots done, and once I even auditioned with one of those Bazaar modeling companies that give you invitations at the local fair (I was so nervous that I read the commercial prompt at the speed of light and they never called us again). But I’m not a fashion blogger. How do you all stand so beautifully? Where will I put my hands? What shoes do I need? How will I do my hair? Do I even have fake eyelashes in my house anymore?! The Kardashians always wear fake eyelashes during their photoshoots!
But Laura made things SO EASY! I had messaged her about the look I was going for and she immediately replied with several locations nearby where we could go for the perfect surroundings to capture my vision.
Then I woke up on the morning of our shoot to discover that it was pouring rain outside. I was so disappointed! I had spent hours picking out my outfits and woke up so excited to have a more professional feel around WMSB. I sent her a message saying that I understood we’d have to cancel because of the weather.
Guess what? Laura isn’t afraid of any weather! When she said we could still have an amazing day, even with the rain, I was skeptical. But I figured I already had the time set aside and my hot rollers warming, so I might as well give it a shot. But she was right! My hair went flat, but other than that, the rain had no impact on the quality of Moonshine Photography’s photos! I can’t even tell you guys what a great trait that is to have in a Pacific Northwest photographer. If we stopped life because of rain, we’d never get things done. But people still use it as an excuse to cancel. The fact that Laura was willing to pull out her camera, rain or shine, was super impressive to me.
At first I was a little awkward, but by the end we were having a blast. I felt so comfortable and capable of being myself! We even got a little goofy.
And her editing… You guys, her editing. I had the luck of getting to see the before and after of several of her photos. The befores were GORGEOUS. She’d show me a before and I’d feel shocked that I looked so pretty. Then she’d show me the afters… and oh my word! I felt like a supermodel! J and I stood at her laptop amazed at the work she had done. I still can’t get over it!
Laura doesn’t just do blog photography (although if you’re a blogger in Pierce or King County who is looking for a set of professional head shots, you should email her immediately!). She takes the most adorable photos of babies and kids, senior portraits, family portraits as groups and solos, and is accepting engagement photos and pregnancy/gender reveal announcements!
If you’re in King County or Pierce county and looking for a professional photographer, contact Moonshine Photography to schedule your shoot! You can do so by heading to her Facebook page and simply sending a message, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also learn more on the Moonshine Photography website. Also, there are more photos in the gallery at the top of this post if you’d like to see more of our amazing photo shoot!
Right now she’s offering mini-sessions for $80. A mini-session is 30 minutes with 5 photos. I don’t know how long this amazing price point will last, so you should probably contact her immediately! I know that she is accepting appointments in July and the last time she offered these mini-sessions, she booked up for a couple months straight! I keep hearing that we’re officially half-way to Christmas. Now’s your chance to have the best Christmas Card photos in the USPS mail stream!
