If you’re new here, I love to set short term monthly goals that fit with my values and hopes for the New Year’s Resolutions that I set. I think that short-term checkpoints create a greater chance for success because it keeps our goals fresh in our mind and they’re more manageable than our wild and crazy ideas from January 1st.

June Progress & July Goals
Let’s review my June Goals:

June Goals

May was the first month that I didn’t meet any of my goals. I’m happy to share that I turned things around in June. This is just more proof that setting smaller goals each month or quarter, is a great way to stay on track with your New Year’s Resolutions without quitting due to discouragement of falling off course!

Read 1 Book and Listen to 1 AudiobookPASS!

Physical Book: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. It took me a little while longer to finish this book than expected, but once I got about 1/4 into it and things slowed down at work, I read it in about a week!

Audiobook: The Martian by Andy Weir. You guys. If you haven’t read The Martian you need to, ASAP. I have a hard time listening to fiction audiobooks. I’ve never actually finished one because the storyline or characters get confusing. But The Martian was AMAZING! I couldn’t stop listening to it. I would get out of the car, go inside to start cooking dinner, and turn it on while I cooked dinner. I finished all 10 hours in 6 days. SIX DAYS! So hurry over to Amazon and order either the paperback (15 cents!) or the audiobook (free if you sign up for a new audible account, or one credit out of your monthly subscription). Participate In One Instagram Giveaway and One Blog Giveaway PASS!
This is another monthly goal. I participated in an instagram loop and a blog giveaway. I think they were both good investments. The links I submitted for the blog giveaway were Instagram, Pinterest and Bloglovin’. The loop increased my Instagram followers by about 650 people. The Blog giveaway Instagram counteracted the mass of people that unfollow after those giveaways so I ended up with a net gain of about 640. Pinterest and Bloglovin’ both increased by about 200. In my mind, that’s a great investment!

Host a periscope We’ll See…

Do you follow WMSB on Periscope?

I am writing this in advance (gasp, blogging secrets!), and have one day in the month left to meet this goal. So hopefully June 30th is the day!

Work Out Three Times a Week PASS!
My workouts weren’t all Barre classes. Sometimes it was just an afternoon walk during my lunch break. But they count! I felt the serious effects of not taking care of myself last month. Letting exercise take the first back burner in my schedule had a major impact on my mood and anxiety. Self care is important, folks! Don’t let your other priorities (or other people’s priorities) keep you from protecting your own health!

Continue My Debt Snowball  PASS!
After transferring my balance to an interest and balance transfer fee credit card, I paid off over $1,600 in debt! That’s more than my snowball. But in fairness, I did buy a new camera on eBay (I tried really hard to resist), so only $1,200 worth of my balance lowered. I still think that’s great!

Timely and thoroughly grade essays PASS!
There was only one essay group where I turned them in late. It was only a hand full and it was less than 24 hours. So I’m thrilled about this! I can’t wait to take that check and put it straight onto my credit cards!

An update on the progress I made on April's goals, and the ones I set for May (Fitness, Finances, Blogging, Reading and Life)

July Goals

July will start and end with a camping trip. So fun!

Read 1 Book and Listen to 1 Audiobook – This goal will be present all year long. Here are the two I plan to read in July:

Physical Book: The Best Yes by Lysa Terkeurst.  My bible study leader gave me her copy to borrow after I told my group about the anxiety I’ve felt over the last month. It’s been really good so far!
Audiobook: I actually don’t have one lined up yet! I’d love to hear your suggestions in the comments! What audiobook should I listen to next?

Keep Up With My Bible Reading

It turns out, if you stop taking care of your own needs, focus only on all of the tasks in front of you, and already struggle with perfectionism, you will burn out! I learned this the hard way this month. In May I actually LOST my bible study book. WHAT?! How does that happen?! I’ll tell you how. By being so busy that when you put it in your trunk, and then go somewhere else and put that stuff in your trunk, then go somewhere else and put THAT stuff in your trunk, you won’t find it until you deep clean your whole car.

I took my eyes off the Lord and put them (and all the pressure that goes along with that) on myself. It wasn’t healthy and I ended up in the doctor’s office this week to talk about being sick and stressed. Yuck. I’m not going to let that happen this month. I’m keeping my eyes on the Lord and in my Bible.  And I’m telling you guys about it so that I can be held accountable for those mornings where I’m *so busy* that I’ll *do it later.*

Participate In One Instagram Giveaway and One Blog Giveaway
This is another monthly goal. I will be on the lookout for more

Redesign my Header/Feature Images

I love the design of the feature/header images that I’ve been using since I redesigned my blog. Unfortunately, the people of Pinterest do not. My traffic from Pinterest has plummeted since I updated them. They need a new look, and thanks to Pixelmator, they won’t be hard to update. I just have to let go of what I like vs. what’s best for this blog.

Why: I have had a lot of goals in the past about writing x number of posts, or spend x number of minutes writing per day. These are great goals, however I have a ton of content on WMSB and spend very little time promoting it. This means that I write a post and then after a week or so, no one sees it. I’m hoping that by focusing on social media, alongside writing (which happens naturally because I love it), I will see greater success in this space.

Work Out Three Times a Week
Three times a week seems to be my sweet spot for feeling fit and staying healthy. Working out creates an awesome work-life balance wall for me and when I stopped working out consistently and reading my bible consistently, it really caught up to me. Not again!

Continue My Debt Snowball
My debt snowball payments are scheduled up to the point where I will be credit card debt free! If you want to break the cycle of debt, start automating your payments! It’s like the money was never there to spend in the first place.

My bank allows me to pay bills a quarter in advance. Taking the emotion out of my money has been key to paying off tens of thousands of dollars in debt over the last 17 months!  I love it. You can read more about my debt payoff strategy here.

What are your goals for July? How did June go for you? Are you still on track for your resolutions? If not there’s nothing stopping you from figuring it out now, or setting new ones!
I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
