If you’re new here, I love to set short term monthly goals that fit with my values and hopes for the New Year’s Resolutions that I set. I think that short-term checkpoints create a greater chance for success because it keeps our goals fresh in our mind and they’re more manageable than our wild and crazy ideas from January 1st.

Read 1 Book and Listen to 1 AudiobookFAIL

Physical Book: The Best Yes by Lysa Terkeurst – I like it so far, I just forgot to bring it with me on our two weekend get aways so I didn’t make any progress on it during half the month. I’m half done though I think it will be possible!

Audiobook: Maybe in Another Life: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I am admitting defeat on this one. It’s a great story idea and I do like the characters. But there are two problems. It tells, it doesn’t show. There is nothing left to the readers imagination. Every single “I laughed,” “He replied,” “I got out of the car,” is right there in your face. I don’t necessarily mind things like this when I’m reading a hard copy of a book because I can skim over them. But you can’t skim over them in an audiobook. Plus, the woman who reads it is great at female voices. Her male voices are all the same tone, which, unfortunately, sounds like a douchey guy in his 20’s who would rather be lazily playing video games. So my opinion is to give this physical book a shot, but pass on the audiobook.

Keep Up With My Bible Reading PASS!

I took my eyes off the Lord and put them (and all the pressure that goes along with that) on myself. It wasn’t healthy and I ended up in the doctor’s office this week to talk about being sick and stressed. Yuck. I’m not going to let that happen this month. I’m keeping my eyes on the Lord and in my Bible.  I told you guys about it so that I can be held accountable for those mornings where I’m *so busy* that I’ll *do it later.*

I am so, so happy to report that this is a pass. And guess what, I really have felt a noticeable difference in my mood, a decrease in my anxiety and a general strength to believe in myself and have hope. Thanks, Holy Spirit :). Right now I’m working through this devotional on youversion, a free Bible app.

Work Out Three Times a Week PASS!
Yay! I also found out this month that I’ve worked out enough this year to get a $150 reward for my health insurance AND a $50 bonus! Wahoo! If you have health insurance, you should look into the benefits it provides for making healthy life choices.


Continue My Debt Snowball  PASS! 
If all goes according to plan, I will pay off my credit cards this month. The cards that I have carried a balance on since I was 18. I can’t even believe it, you guys. J asked me what I’m even going to do with myself when that’s done. I have no idea!

We got free tickets to Kenny Chesney as a thank you for J’s military service, and I ended up spending a lot more in Seattle than I expected that weekend. That meant I put a few things for Watershed on my credit card. But it wasn’t much and won’t take me off track for my pay off plan, thankfully.

August Goals

July was full of camping and August will be full of celebrations! Several important people in my life have birthdays this month. We have an important wedding to go to at the end. AND we are taking my first real vacation from work ever the day after that! I’m so excited! I even splurged and scheduled a hair appointment for the morning of the wedding. I haven’t made a hair appointment in months because I’ve been so close to paying off my cards that I just couldn’t spend the $150. Highlight touchup, here I come! OK, but I do have other goals besides being blonder…


Read 1 Book and Listen to 1 Audiobook – This goal will be present all year long. Here are the two I plan to read in July:

Physical Book: Finish The Best Yes by Lysa Terkeurst.  My bible study leader gave me her copy to borrow after I told my group about the anxiety I’ve felt over the last month. It’s been really good so far!
Audiobook: Crash the Chatterbox by Steven Furtick. My church read this book when it first came out in a group bible study, but for some reason that I don’t remember, I couldn’t participate. It seems perfect for me in this season of my life.

Keep Up With My Bible Reading

With both of my books being Christ-focused this month, this may seem like a redundant goal, but it helped so much last month that I don’t want to lose sight of it again.


Redesign my Header/Feature Images

I’m going to try this again! I have some drafts, but nothing I’m ready to commit to yet, and I’m also thinking about changing my font. I love the design of the feature/header images that I’ve been using since I redesigned my blog. Unfortunately, the people of Pinterest do not. My traffic from Pinterest has plummeted since I updated them. They need a new look, and thanks to Pixelmator, they won’t be hard to update. I just have to let go of what I like vs. what’s best for this blog.

Why: I have had a lot of goals in the past about writing x number of posts, or spend x number of minutes writing per day. These are great goals, however I have a ton of content on WMSB and spend very little time promoting it. This means that I write a post and then after a week or so, no one sees it. I’m hoping that by focusing on social media, alongside writing (which happens naturally because I love it), I will see greater success in this space.

Redesign my Header/Feature Images

Take a class about using my new DSLR. I do better with structure and deadlines over random free advice on the internet. I love the Nikon D3300 I bought. It’s been amazing and takes great photos with just some basic level knowledge. I really want to take full advantage of owning that camera and take a class in how to best use it.


Work Out Three Times a Week
Three times a week seems to be my sweet spot for feeling fit and staying healthy. Working out creates an awesome work-life balance wall for me and when I stopped working out consistently and reading my bible consistently, it really caught up to me. Not again!

You guys…. I can’t believe this is a real monthly goal and totally possible!! Ahhh!!!!

My bank allows me to pay bills a quarter in advance. Taking the emotion out of my money has been key to paying off tens of thousands of dollars in debt over the last 17 months!  I love it. You can read more about my debt payoff strategy here.
